Adjudicator and Conductor
John is a full member of the Association of Brass Band Adjudicators and has adjudicated at Milton Keynes, Fife Charities and London & SC Regional Championships (twice). As a conductor, he has directed recordings with Fairey (see 'Website' link below), Leyland, Co-operative Funeralcare (Scotland) and Reg Vardy bands. John is the conductor of Fulham Brass, and has recently helped the band gain promotion into the Championship Section for the first time in its 124-year history. He has won two area titles in London and S&C and achieved four ‘Finals’ qualifications in seven years. John has enjoyed successful guest conducting at contests with Thundersley Brass, Aveley and Newham, Ratby, Foresters and Mount Charles bands and has directed concerto performances with renowned soloists, James Fountain, Davur Magnussen, Steve Stewart and Owen Farr. He has directed Grimethorpe Colliery, Brighouse and Rastrick and Cory Bands in rehearsal and was auditioned for the Assistant Music Director (to Bramwell Tovey) of The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. Ray Farr described John as "without doubt, the most talented conducting student I’ve ever had”, Allan Withington said: "He is talented, ambitious and possesses the ability to solve problems quickly and communicate these solutions to a large group of people”, and Robert Redhead : "I couldn't have asked for better interpretations of the various styles of music expressed". As a playing member of Rothwell Temperance and Desford Colliery bands he won two All England Masters titles and toured South East Asia twice.
