MBE, Hon. A.R.C.M.
Nigel Boddice M.B.E., Hon. A.R.A.M., enjoys a busy, impressive and enterprising conducting career. ‘For his musical input and work with the youth of Scotland generally, and West Lothian specifically’ Nigel was awarded the M.B.E. in the 2005 Queen’s Birthday Honours. He has a wealth of experience in a number of mediums. The early days were spent in community bands, mostly brass bands. After study at the R.A.M., he was appointed to the BBCSSO as principal trumpet where he worked for the following twenty years. Since 1995 Nigel has travelled extensively to conduct many a varied combination of orchestra, ensemble and band. One of the highlights included the appointment as Chief Conductor to the Royal Norwegian Navy Band [KNMM] for some seven years. Another was winning the Scottish Brass Band Championships, both junior and senior titles in the same year. Alongside this notable work Nigel has worked at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland [formerly the R.S.A.M.D.] since 1978 and these days combines the role as a Lecturer in Instrumental Performance with coordinating the conducting department.
