Tom Davoren is originally from Wales's picturesque Gower peninsula and currently resides in the nation's capitol city, Cardiff. Published principally by Studio Music his work is regularly commissioned by brass and wind musicians from across the globe. A selection of these includes The Central Band of the Royal Air Force (UK), Brass Band of Battle Creek (USA), Cory Band (UK), Brass Band Oberösterreich (Austria) and soloists such as Philippe Schartz (Principal Trumpet, BBC National Orchestra of Wales), Lito Fontana (International Trombone Soloist), Jonathan Pippen (Former Principal Trombone, Remix Ensemble, Porto), Harmen Vanhoorne (Cornet Soloist, Band of the Belgian Guides), Glenn Van Looy (International Euphonium Soloist) and Steven Mead (International Euphonium Soloist). He is also proud to hold the position of Associate Composer with Brassband Buizingen in Belgium. Noted performances of Tom's music have been given at New York's Carnegie Hall, the BASBWE London Festival, World Music Contest (Kerkrade, The Netherlands), International Tuba Euphonium Conference (Linz, Austria & Indiana, USA), International Trumpet Guild Conference (Ohio, USA), Schagerl Festival (Melk, Austria), Swiss Solo Quartet Championship and the solo and band sections of the National Band Championships of New Zealand, Australia and Great Britain. Tom is the Reviews Editor of the popular 'Brass Band World' magazine and has worked as Production Editor at the journal of the British Association of Symphonic Bands and Wind Ensembles, 'Winds'. An experienced brass band conductor with a successful pedigree in the UK championship, first and youth sections, Tom founded the Flowers Youth Band (2007 - 2010) and held his first position with the BTM Band from 2008 to 2012. Since then he has established the Bristol based Filton Band as a championship section outfit and from 2014 holds positions as Musical Director with the Desford Colliery Band and Associate Conductor with the Fairey Band. Tom studied tuba with Nigel Seaman at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in composition having studied with Anthony Powers and Arlene Sierra at Cardiff University School of Music. In 2009/10 he was awarded a research scholarship from the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Welsh Livery Guild Composition Award. He was also a BASCA British Composer Award nominee in 2011, a prizewinner at the EBBA European Composers Competition 2012 and the recipient of a Harvey Phillips Award for excellence in composition, presented by the International Tuba Euphonium Association, in 2014.
